I had a dinner with one of my friends the other day. His beautiful little daughter, with whom we are very friendly, was running about the kitchen, and regularly asking if she could eat some m&ms, or pop corn, or some other junk food. Now, I believe (like prince Myshkin, the Idiot) that children should always be told the truth, because they understand things much deeper than it is customary thought. So I said: “Young lady, you might not think much of it right now, but after a couple of years you will appreciate how advantageous it is to be skinny. At your age, you only need to hold on for a couple of years, then it will become easy”.
